I had the pleasure of walking the ward today handing out Christmas cards to people we identified early on in our campaign. We want to be a campaign that engages people of all backgrounds and shows the community that I am here to listen to their needs, not the whims of a politician or an overzealous person.
I learned listening skills from mom. She had this odd way of talking on the phone for hours, with more than half of the time just listening to the person while making very few comments. I want to model that kind of communication where there is less talking, and more listening to our residents. I hope that message resonates to those who are celebrating this Christmas season. Maybe if we each listened a little bit more, we would find that such skill would provide a loving and caring environment in our lives.
